In this workshop we explained the Give a Crit slogan guiding the pARTicipate project. Art students are subjected to critiques of their work by professors. They may find fault with their work, but they also provide suggestions for improvement. However, this is not negative criticism.
Emily Frye’s class invited students from Wheeling High School to shadow them for a day and get involved with our classes while on this project.
Our guests observed the various areas of study offered, being led in groups from classroom to classroom by a member of the Junior Graphic design class. This way, they could witness the day-to-day routines of art students as well as discuss with professors the kind of work being done here.
Among other presentations those students were invited to silkscreen some personalized backpacks which began with our GIVE A CRIT logo. Our own students got them as well. We hoped this message in our own community would stimulate Participation in the project.
